Cold test

Bfore testing the tooth should be dry. The reaction of the patient is subjective. Therefore it is recommandible to test also the adjacent teeth.
When the pain stays for a longer time, it is an indication that the pulp is infected already. Also the type of reaction gives an indication about the condition of the pulp.
There are more methods for cold testing:

  1. Ethyl chloride
    • Ethyl chloride is sprayed on a cotton pellet. The the cotton pellet is placed on the middle surface of the buccal part of the tooth

  2. Sticks of ice (can be made in a needle carpule)

    • Cold water
    • This works best when the tooth is isolated by rubberdam from the rest of the oral cavity. With a monoject syringe the tooth is bathed with cold water.
