Fiber optic light

If there is an assumption that a vertical fracture is playing a part, a light source (for which also a light hardening apparatus may be used) can be placed at the neck of the element. If a continuous line in an otherwise evenly lighted crown arises, it is an indication of a fracture. For an accurate diagnosis it is necessary to remove all the old filling material from the tooth. The rise of the operating microscope has made the tracing of fractures so much easier, that the benefit of fiber-optic light has reduced substantially.
